-    Turn left here

Feel free to explore other walks/bike trips in this area – there are lots of nice routes. Here’s one nice spin to the lake (Lough Carra)

From our house – six miles
-    Go out the gate of our house, and turn immediate right
-    Turn right onto the main road
-    Travel for circa one mile, taking the next left
-    Cycle on straight for circa 1 mile, until you come to a fork in the road. The main road continues right, but you should take the little road to your left.
-    Travel down this road for circa 1 mile and follow the road around to the right.
-    Pretty soon the lake will be on your left.
-    Continue on for approx. one mile until you come to a t-junction. Turn left here and continue on for one mile.
-    You come to a t-junction.
-    Take the right hand turn and travel circa one mile back to our house.

Longer biking trips:

Lap of Lough Mask – 42 miles
-    Travel into Ballinrobe town (3 miles) via the main road at our house
-    Turn right in Ballinrobe and cycle circa six miles to Partry
-    Turn left and cycle circa one mile, until you come to a left hand turn (signposted Tourmakeady) – take this
-    Cycle circa another two miles until you come to a junction – take the signpost for Tourmakeady
-    Cycle on straight through Tourmakeady – this stretch is circa eight miles in total and will eventually bring you up the biggest climb on the trip – Maamtrasna. Stop at the top here for beautiful lake views.
-    Come down this hill at the other side, and just at the bottom, take the very sharp left turn
-    Cycle on for circa eight miles, through the small village of Finney, and into the village of Clonbur. A nice place to stop for coffee etc (Burke’s Bar or one of the two Lynch’s Bars)
-    Continue on to Ballinrobe (signposted)
-    Three miles out the road to Ballirobe, there will be a left turn – also signposted for Ballinrobe.
-    Continue for circa eight miles to Ballinrobe
-    In Ballinrobe, simply return to home (hopefully you will be familiar with the route home from Ballinrobe by the time you do this spin!)

Check out the Greenway, which I have included in West Mayo attractions elsewhere in this folder.

As a general rule for biking, go west – go to places like Cong, Clonbur, Tourmakeady – lovely scenery, quiet roads, a few hills to get the heart rate up!
